The Pentek WS-20 water softening cartridges fits in a standard housing and is used to reduce water hardness. This cartridge contains water softening resin and is capable of removing 1500 grains of total water hardness. The Pentek WS-20 cartridge is often used before an R.O. system where excessive hardness could reduce membrane life. The WS-20 is intended to be used once and discarded.
Here is a general guide for the quantity of water that can be softened using the Pentek WS-20 cartridge with various water hardness levels:
- 1 grain per gallon = 1500 gallons
- 5 grains per gallon = 300 gallons
- 10 grains per gallon = 150 gallons
- 20 grains per gallon = 75 gallons
