Fleck Water Softeners have been leading the water softening industry for over 50 years. Fleck water softeners are renowned for good prices and rock solid performance. Fleck water softeners are manufactured by Pentair and as such are backed by one of the largest water treatment manufacturers in the world. Fleck water softeners are available in a number of different versions each with a specific set of features and benefits.
Fleck water softeners are available in three basic configurations: Fleck Time Clock, Fleck Metered, and Fleck Metered Digital Softeners. Each of these three water softener configurations by Fleck have specific applications for which they are designed.
Fleck Time Clock Water Softeners
Fleck time clock water softeners are designed for multiple applications and have been in use for many years. Time clock water softeners are regenerated based on the number of days that have elapsed since the last softener regeneration. Whether 1 gallon or 1000 gallons have been softened, the unit will regenerate based on the timer. This can be advantageous in situations where it is paramount that regeneration occur on a regular schedule, but it can also waste salt and water in situations where it is not critical. In most residential water softener applications it is advantageous to go with a Fleck metered softener valve.
Fleck Metered Water Softeners
Fleck metered water softeners are the most popular and commonly used valve in residential water softener applications. Fleck metered water softeners measure the amount of water being consumed and regenerate when the softener bed is becoming exhausted. Fleck metered valves offer thrr distinct advantages over a time clock system. First, less salt is consumed. A metered softener only regenerates when the bed has lost its ability to perform any more softening. By regenerating at this point a Fleck metered softener ensures that no unecessary salt is added to the bed. All the salt that is used to regenerate the bed will be used and not sent to drain.
The second advantage that a Fleck metered softener offers is reduced water use. When a water softener regenerates it sends large quantities of water to drain - sometimes as much as 75 gallons. A Fleck metered softener will ensure that softener only occurs when necessary and will reduce the total number of regenerations, thus saving water.
Lastly, a Fleck metered softener will ensure that your water is always soft! With a time clock water softener it is possilbe to use up the softening capacity of the bed before the clock hits the reset point. This results in unsoftened water being supplied to the home. A Fleck metered water softener will avoid these situations by regenerating when the bed has lost any further capacity to soften.
The standard Fleck metered water softener is the Fleck 5600.
Fleck Digital Metered Water Softeners
Fleck digital metered water softeners are very similar to the Fleck 5600 in how they operate. The main difference is that a the digital version offers an electronic interface for programming. The digital interface provides easier and more detailed control over water softener regeneration options and stages.
