A reverse osmosis system is a combination of sediment, carbon, and membrane filtration. Sediment filters are a mechanical means to remove all particulate matter from the water. This acts to protect the downstream elements of the R.O. system: the carbon filter and the membrane. Carbon filtration is an 'absorptive' filtration media. It chemically binds many water contaminants including chlorine - which can damage the R.O. membrane if not removed. The reverse osmosis membrane is the heart and soul of the system. The membrane has ultra-small pores through which only pure water can pass. The resulting water is exceptionally pure, delicious, and healthy.
