A turbulator is a device that moves resin from the bottom of your softening tank to the top of the tank during a softener regeneration cycle. This agitation helps to remove more of the absorbed minerals from your resin, increasing the effectiveness of the regeneration. A turbulator is valuable in very hard water conditions (greater than 15 grains per gallon) or when excess iron is present (greater than 0.3 ppm). Turbulators are a popular upgrade on well water. It's important to note that a turbulator cannot be used if you're also choosing to add a KDF-55 Mediaguard for whole home dechlorination. The two cannot be used on the same softener.

Fine mesh resin is an upgrade that increases the capacity of your water softener to remove hardness and iron. By upgrading to fine mesh resin more hardness and iron is absorbed meaning more time between regenerations and less likelihood of hard water breakthrough during high flow periods. Selecting the fine mesh resin upgrade is especially useful for increasing the iron-removing capacity of your water softener. Highly recommended for well water.

Remove harmful chlorine from for your entire home and extend the lifespan of your water softener and all other water-using appliances. This option adds a KDF-55 media-guard to the softener which removes all chlorine that passes through the system. Chlorine slowly damages all plastics, rubber, and most other substances. By removing the chlorine from your water supply you increase the lifespan of your water softener and other appliances. Chlorine in shower/bath water has been shown to have negative health effects. Add this option and enjoy soft, chlorine free water everywhere in your home. This device needs to be replaced after half a million gallons. The KDF-55 Mediaguard cannot be chosen as an option if you're also choosing to add a turbulator - the two cannot be installed on the same softener.

A brine grid sits in the bottom of the brine tank and helps to prevent the salt from sticking together. Some brands or types of salt will clump together and will eventually form a bridge of rock hard salt that will prevent the softener from regenerating properly. This device will prevent this from happening.

More About the Fleck 5600 SXT Metered Water Softener - 32,000 Grain

Get ready for whiter laundry, less detergent use, softer hair and skin, and completely and permanently remove unsightly scale buildup from the shower, appliances, the bathtub, and everywhere else water is used.

This aQuatell water softener features the Fleck 5600SXT valve. The "SXT" is the newest version of the renowned Fleck 5600 valve - a valve that has proven it's reliability and top-notch performance with generations of professional water softener installers. This professional grade product will soften even the most stubborn water with virtually zero maintenance.

This softener is a "metered" system - meaning that the valve is able to measure the amount of water you use, and will only initiate a regeneration when the softener is nearly exhausted. This translates to very efficient operation - less salt consumption and less water consumption compared to non-metered systems. Another great feature of the Fleck 5600SXT is the digital controller. Three push buttons on the front panel and an easy-to-read LCD panel make programming this water softener a snap. No more dials, push pins, and calculations to do. Simply program your water hardness and a few other parameters and the softener takes care of the rest. Set it and forget it!

Every water softener ships with a brine tank (the "salt" tank) and includes a safety float. Although it's very rare, if your softener tried to add too much water to the brine tank during regeneration, the safety float would stop the water flow and would prevent any water spillage. We include a bypass valve with all softeners and your choice of plumbing adapters. The bypass valve does just what it says - it allows a user to bypass the softener with the turn of two dials or a lever. Once in bypass mode the water softener can be uncoupled from the plumbing without interrupting water flow to your home.

At aQuatell, we pride ourselves on selecting only the components that bring maximum value to our customers. Whether it's the tanks, resin, screws, or any other component, rest assured that we build all of our systems with the parts and pieces that do their job well, for the least amount of cost. In short, we want you to be delighted not only with the price, but with the longterm performance of your softener. Since water softeners can be modified to work better in specific conditions, we offer a number of different product options that you can select to customize your purchase. Do you have high iron? Want your water softener to remove chlorine? Have a look at our product options and find the options you need.

How a Water Softener Works

Calcium and Magnesium compounds make water hard. The resin used inside the Fleck 5600 SXT water softener is attracted to both calcium and magnesium containing compounds. When calcium or magnesium contact a bead of water softener resin, it adheres to the resin and is trapped. In exchange for trapping the hardness compound, the resin releases a sodium particle. Eventually the resin becomes saturated with hardness particles. At this point the water softener rinses the resin with very salty water called brine. The resin releases the hardness particles which are flushed to the drain and are recharged with sodium from the brine. The resin is now ready to trap more calcium and magnesium.
