More About the Pentek RFFE20-BB Iron Reducing Cartridge

RFFE20-BB is an iron reducing cartridge that is used to remove iron and reduce the problems that iron causes.  By reducing the iron concentration in your water, the RFFE20-BB will reduce orange or brown iron staining on your tubs, sinks, toilets, and other fixtures and will reduce the metallic taste in your water.  High iron levels in water can also damage pipes and water heaters.  The Pentek RFFE20-BB will protect this equipment.

Each Pentek RFFE20-BB is capable of removing up to 3 parts per million (ppm) of iron.  For optimum performance it is recommended that water is pre-filtered to 5-micron and that a carbon post-filter is used.  The length of time between cartridge changes depends on the number of people in your home, and the amount of iron in  your water:

Approximate Life of Pentek RFFE20-BB:

  • For 3 ppm iron with 4 people in the home = 104 days
  • For 2 ppm iron with 4 people in the home = 160 days
  • For 1 ppm iron with 4 people in the home = 320 days
  • For 0.5 ppm iron with 4 people in the home = 640 days

Another way of stating the life expectancy of the filter is to state the number of gallons which can be treated based on the iron level:

  • 3 ppm = 26,000 gallons
  • 2 ppm = 40,000 gallons
  • 1 ppm = 80,000 gallons
  • 0.5 ppm = 160,000 gallons
