Product Description

The Pentek CBC-10 is a carbon briquette water filter.  The Pentek CBC-10 are highly effective and reducing bad taste, bad odor, and chlorine taste/odor from drinking water.  The unique structure of the Pentek CBC-10 water filter allow it to not only remove chemical contaminants but also to filter out dangerous cysts such as cryptosporidium, giardia, entamoeba, and toxoplasma that may be found in drinking water supplies.  The Pentek CBC-10 will also act as a fine sediment filter trapping particles down to 0.5 microns.  The Pentek CBC-10 water filter cartridge is made using a patented process and is made entirely of FDA compliant materials.

The Pentek CBC-10 is an ideal choice for many different drinking water applications including food service, residential, and other industrial and commercial purposes.  They are often used as a polishing filter or pre-filter in applications that require very fine filtration and high capacity.

More about the Pentek CBC-10 Carbon Block Filter:

The Pentek CBC-10 is composed of activated carbon. Activated carbon is a highly porous material that attracts and traps chemicals as the water passes through. Due to it's highly porous structure, filters such as the Pentek CBC-10 have tremendously high surface areas. Typically, a pound of activated carbon has from 60 to 150 acres of surface area. It is this massive surface area that gives activated carbon most of its filtration properties.

Carbon filters such as the Pentek CBC-10 are created by slowly heating a carbon source in the absence of oxygen. Many different carbon sources can be used such as coal, coconut shells, or peanut shells. The carbon filter is activated by passing oxygen gas at very high temperature through the carbon. This process gives the carbon filter it's highly porous structure.

Carbon filters like the Pentek CBC-10 are able to filter water by two main processes: physical straining & adsorption. The highly porous structure of carbon block filters act as microscopic channels that are able to effectively trap many large organic molecules. Other contaminants may have an electrical interaction with the carbon filter material and will "stick" to it.
