Pentek RFC20-BB radial flow carbon filter offers outstanding flow rates, low pressure loss, and excellent chemical filtration capabilities. An excellent choice for chlorine removal.
Product Description
The Pentek RFC20BB is a radial flow carbon filter used in water purificaiton. The Pentek RFC20-BB is most commonly used as a point of entry filter where chlorine reduction is desired. The Pentek RFC20-BB offers outstanding flow rates with very little pressure loss. For this reason these cartridges are often used when line pressure is less than desirable and the user is looking to minimize the loss of water flow. The Pentek RFC20-BB is constructed of an outer layer of 70 micron pre-filtration media and a solid polyprolylene core. Between these two layers is sandwiched a layer of granular activated carbon (GAC). This unique design offers a multitude of advantages over tradional carbon block or GAC filters including superior flow rates, very little pressure loss, and very little release of carbon fines.
More about the Pentek RFC20-BB Radial Carbon Filter:
The Pentek RFC20-BB is composed of activated carbon. Activated carbon is a highly porous material that attracts and traps chemicals as the water passes through. Due to it's highly porous structure, filters such as the Pentek RFC20-BB have tremendously high surface areas. Typically, a pound of activated carbon has from 60 to 150 acres of surface area. It is this massive surface area that gives activated carbon most of its filtration properties.
Carbon filters such as the Pentek RFC20-BB are created by slowly heating a carbon source in the absence of oxygen. Many different carbon sources can be used such as coal, coconut shells, or peanut shells. The carbon filter is activated by passing oxygen gas at very high temperature through the carbon. This process gives the carbon filter it's highly porous structure.
Carbon filters like the Pentek RFC20-BB are able to filter water by two main processes: physical straining & adsorption. The highly porous structure of carbon block filters act as microscopic channels that are able to effectively trap many large organic molecules. Other contaminants may have an electrical interaction with the carbon filter material and will "stick" to it.
