Water Softener Capacity and Salt Settings For Fleck Control Valves

Thank you for your purchase of an aQuatell water softener!  At aQuatell we want to make sure that your softener is set up to give you the best results possible.  The page we've put together shows the different values that should be used for both the Capacity and Salt settings for your Fleck water softener control valve. Let's start with the settings that are used for water with less than 0.5 ppm of iron:

If Your Water Has Less than 0.5 ppm of Iron:

When water has little or no iron present, we strongly suggest that you program your softener to minimize the amount of salt it will consume.  This makes the softener cheaper to operate, better for the environment, and you don't have to lug so much salt home from the store!  If you've had your water tested and it has less than 0.5 ppm (same as mg/L) of iron then use these settings.  If you're on a city water supply, chances are very good that your iron is below this level.  Here are the settings you should use:

Capacity:

  • For a softener with 0.75 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 15,000 grains
  • For a softener with 1.0 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 20,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 1.25 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACIT (C) to 25,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 1.5 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 30,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 2.0 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 40,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 2.5 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 50,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 3.0 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 60,0000 grains

Salt Settings:

With a Fleck control valve, the amount of salt that is used per regeneration is controlled by changing the "Brine Fill" (BF) cycle length.  The longer the time, the more water is added to the brine tank, and the more salt is dissolved.  Here are the Brine Fill times to use for the Fleck control valves:

For Fleck 5600SXT

  • For a softener with 0.75 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 3 minutes
  • For a softener with 1.0 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 4 minutes
  • For a softener with 1.25 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 5 minutes
  • For a softener with 1.5 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 6 minutes
  • For a softener with 2.0 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 8 minutes
  • For a softener with 2.5 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 10 minutes
  • For a softener with 3.0 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 12 minutes

For Fleck 7000SXT

  • For a softener with 0.75 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 6 minutes
  • For a softener with 1.0 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 8 minutes
  • For a softener with 1.25 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 10 minutes
  • For a softener with 1.5 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 12 minutes
  • For a softener with 2.0 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 16 minutes
  • For a softener with 2.5 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 20 minutes
  • For a softener with 3.0 cubic feet of resin, set Brine Fill (BF) to 24 minutes

If Your Water Has 0.5 ppm or More of Iron:

When water has a high concentration of iron, we have to use a little more salt during the regeneration to ensure all of iron is stripped off the resin.  This prolongs the lifespan of the softener resin, and makes it work more efficiently.  This has the added benefit of providing a little more total capacity to the system.  Use the following settings if your water has 0.5 ppm (same as mg/L) or more of iron:

Capacity:

  • For a softener with 0.75 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 18,000 grains
  • For a softener with 1.0 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 25,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 1.25 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACIT (C) to 31,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 1.5 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 35,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 2.0 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 50,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 2.5 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 62,0000 grains
  • For a softener with 3.0 cubic feet of resin, set CAPACITY (C) to 75,0000 grains
